Abstract

This project is the replacement of a narrow and structurally deficient bridge on SR 111 over Turkey Creek, approximately 5 miles south of Cairo, Georgia. The existing bridge is 120' x 24' with timber pilings, timber caps, steel stringers, concrete deck with a sufficiency rating of 7.5. The existing approaches consist of 24' pavement with 7' combination paved and grassed shoulders. The existing right-of-way is 200'. The base year traffic (1998) is 3800 VPD and the design year traffic (2018) is 6100 VPD. The posted speed is 55 MPH and design speed is 55 MPH. The proposed replacement structure is a 120' x 44' concrete bridge. The approaches will be 24' wide with 10' rural shoulders. No additional right-of-way will be required. An on-site runaround will be provided on the east side of the existing bridge structure. Environmental concerns include requiring a Nationwide 404 permit; A Programmatic of will be prepared (constructed in 1939 with steel stringers, 106/4£ involvement is anticipated); time saving procedures are appropriate.
