Abstract

In August 1993 an intensive archaeological survey was conducted of 386.10 acres located at the northeastern tip of Sea Island, Glynn County, Georgia. The Ocean Forest tract is the proposed location for an 18-hole golf course, and was investigated in order to identify and evaluate any cultural resources within the property. Shovel tests were excavated at 30 meter intervals, and three prehistoric sites were tested further at shorter intervals and recorded (9GN255, 9GN256, 9GN257). All three sites were small and contained few artifacts; two of the sites have been largely destroyed, one by coastal erosion and one by residential development. None of the three sites is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, and no additional work is recommended.
