Abstract

The following report is a summarization of the work completed and the archaeological resources located, for the Waterworks Improvements Project in Darien, Georgia. The reporting period is from April 18, 1978 to, and including May 2, 1978. Trenching and waterpipe placement activities were completed on May 2 and this is the 'final monthly report of the project.

Work was confined to the last designated portion of U.S. 17, from north of Pine Street to 3rd and Scriven Streets, approximately 2500 feet.

No archaeological resources were found during this report period. A variety of fill was encountered between the area north of Pine Street, southward to approximately 5th Street. This particular section is generally of a lower elevation (as seen on U.S.G.S. Darien and, Ridgeville maps), than the remaining area and was filled to accomodate the construction of U.S. 17. Yellow tan sand was the only alternative soil.
