Abstract

The proposed project has been surveyed for historic resources in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto. The survey boundary and methodology were established as a result of past interaction with the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) and the SHPO staff and were agreed upon by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the SHPO. The Department of Natural Resources' Thomas County preliminary survey for historic resources was consulted to aid in the identification of historic resources. Lists of current and pending National Register properties were checked and aerial photographs along the length of the proposed project were consulted. In addition, Thomasville Landmarks, Inc., Thomas County Historical Society, and the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation were contacted in an effort to identify known historic resources. A field survey for properties in or eligible for inclusion in the National Register also was conducted along the corridor of the proposed project. No historic resources in or eligible for inclusion in the National Register were located within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. This finding has been coordinated with the SHPO.
