Abstract

This report documents the results of an archaeological survey of a five acre tract proposed for construction of a 115/12kV substation by Oglethorpe Power Corporation in Forsyth County, Georgia. The entire study area was investigated by shovel tests placed on 30 m centers, with intervals reduced to 10 m around shovel tests that yielded artifacts. Three isolated artifact finds, with a grand total of six artifacts (two historic and four prehistoric) were found over the entire study area, and none of the isolated finds met the minimum threshold established for an archaeological site. No further archaeological investigations were recommended for the identified isolated finds based on the sparsity of the artifacts encountered in each instance.
