Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project FR-163-1(6), Newton County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP}. The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor.

This is the proposed construction of a turn lane on S.R. 81. The project begins at a point approximately 521 feet north of the Covington West ByPass and terminates about 1, 600 feet to the south (.3 mile). Twenty feet of additional R/W will be required on the east side of S.R. 81. Existing R/W is 60 feet.
