Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project BRS-0837 (1), Haralson County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.

Originally, the proposed project consisted of the replacement of the bridge on US 27/SR 1 Business over the CSX Railroad in the city of Buchanan. The proposed project would begin approximately 108 m (354.3ft) south of the railroad crossing and would end approximately 113 m (370.8ft) north of the railroad crossing. The existing right-of-way is approximately 15 m (50ft). Additional required right-of-way is approximately 30 m (98.4ft). An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted along the entire project corridor August 15, 1997.
