Abstract

On October 30, 2018 Southern Research Historic Preservation Consultants, Inc. conducted a cultural resource survey of the proposed Butler telecommunications tower tract and access easement in Butler, Taylor County, Georgia. The proposed tower is a new build. The investigation was conducted on behalf of Palmetto Engineering & Consulting in compliance with relevant permitting regulations regarding the identification and treatments of significant cultural resources. Guidelines were followed for a Section 106 action as defined by the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966 and under the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Nationwide Programmatic Agreement of 2005. The objectives of this survey were to identify all archaeological sites and historic structures within the project impact areas, evaluate their significance based on National Register of Historical Places (NRHP) criteria, and determine the potential effects of the proposed construction on these resources.
