Abstract

The above referenced 0.62 acre borrow pit had been previously cleared for archaeological resources on May 16, 1994. On February 24, 1995 this office was notified by State Archaeologist of the discovery of Native American human remains within the proposed borrow area. On February 27, 1995 Bob Entorf and Rick Richardson of this office and David Davis of the State Archaeologist's Office, met with Henry L. Frazier and Donald Harris, District 4, at the borrow site. During the site visit it was determined that a Native American burial had eroded from an area within the proposed borrow pit. As no work had been conducted in this area of the pit, we recommend that the pit be rejected from any future use. In addition, it is recommended that the entire Terrell County projects, because of the potential for additional burial(s).
