Abstract

In February 2018, Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB) completed a Phase I archaeological resources survey for the proposed bridge replacement carrying County Road (CR) 157 /Findley Road over Interstate Highway 75 (I-75) located three miles south of Pinehurst in Dooly County, Georgia (PI No. 0013595). The proposed project would begin approximately 230 feet (ft) east of the Liberty Church Road/CR 157 intersection and end approximately 750 ft west of the Bowen Road/CR 157 intersection. The proposed project length along CR 157/ Findley Road is approximately 0.4 mile. The existing roadway of CR 157 /Findley Road consists of two 10-foot lanes. The proposed project's typical section would consist of two travel lanes (one in each direction), shoulders, and concrete barrier walls. The existing right of-way (ROW) of CR 157 /Findley Road varies between 80 and 100 ft, and the acquisition of new ROW and easement may be necessary to accommodate the alignment and construction of the proposed project.

The Phase I archaeological survey was completed to assist the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) in complying with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended (36 CFR 800). The survey was supervised by personnel qualified under the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards (36 CFR part 61- Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation). The survey and report also adhered to the guidelines established by the Georgia Historic Preservation Office (GASHPO) and GDOT.
