Abstract

Project Pl No. 0013715 is part of the Georgia Department of Transportation's (GDOT) statewide bridge replacement effort and would replace the twin parallel, eastbound and westbound bridges located on the State Route 10 (SR 10) Loop over the Middle Oconee River in Clarke County, Georgia. The existing structures were constructed in 1964 and assigned sufficiency ratings of less than 50 at their last Inspection. They are considered structurally deficient as the foundations of both bridges are unknown and al risk for scour. Both concrete structures were constructed with four continuous spans of steel beams on concrete immediate bents. A four-lane divided highway, the existing typical section along SR 10 consists of two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction with approximately 12-foot outside shoulders (10-foot paved), 4-foot paved inside shoulders, and a 40-foot depressed median. The posted speed limit is set at 65 miles per hour (mph). The project is in a preliminary concept phase and the proposed typical section has not yet been determined. The existing right-of-way (ROW) is approximately 335 to 500 feet, and the proposed ROW would be determined as project plans develop.
