Abstract

The purpose of the investigation was to test Mr. Dean Wood's suggestion that there might be an archaeological site of importance adjacent to Coahulla Creek in Whitfield County, Georgia. Since the site in question was located on property involved in a U. S. Forest Service land exchange, assessment of the site's significance was therefore required. Guided by a map prepared by Mr. Wood, the author and assistants Harry Janssen and Jack Cloer investigated the site on Monday, October 4, 1976. Mr. Cloer, a life time resident of the area, indicated that the locale of the site had long been under cultivation. Tree growth, however, suggested that such cultivation must have terminated no sooner than 20 years ago.
