Abstract

Southeastern Wildlife Services, Inc. entered into Contract No. PEPR-6961(1) with the State of Georgia, Department of Transportation on August 2, 1978 (Supplemental Agreement:  September 15, 1968) to conduct an archaeological survey of the proposed Harry S. Truman Parkway, Savannah, Georgia.  Field work for the project commenced on September 29, 1978 and was completed on November 26, 1978. Field work required 62 man-days. Field work consisted of posthole excavations at close intervals along the proposed right-of-way and intensive surface examinations of the right-of-way corridor. Two hundred sixty posthole excavations were conducted; one hundred seventy-three produced no artifacts. A total of97 artifact occurrences were recorded during the survey. Two sites (State Site Nos. 9CH671, 9CH672) were identified. State Approved Archaeological Survey forms have been completed for the two sites and filed under separate cover to the Department of Transportation. Copies of these forms have also been filed with the State Records Section, Department of Archaeology, University of Georgia. The sites are not recommended for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.
