Abstract

A cultural resources survey for the Blackwell Road improvement project in Cobb County, Georgia was conducted by Brockington and Associates, Inc. in February 1996. The project corridor encompasses 4.0 km (2.50 miles) of Blackwell Road. The proposed project begins at the intersection of Canton Highway, and extends east to Shallowford Road Improvements will consist of the addition of turn lanes at selected locations, and the construction of sidewalks. The road will continue to consist of two travel lanes. Fieldwork consisted of intensive archaeological survey and comprehensive architectural survey along the proposed project corridor. Architectural survey involved recording historic resources on Georgia Historic Resources Survey forms. All identified historic resources were evaluated to a level sufficient to allow for recommendations of eligibility for the NRHP. The cultural resources survey found no archaeological sites within the proposed project corridor. Four architectural resources were recorded adjacent to the project corridor. One, a circa 1899 Georgian cottage with Queen Anne elements, is recommended eligible for the NRHP. Project implementation will not adversely affect this NRHP eligible property. No further work regarding historic resources is recommended in conjunction with this project.
