Abstract

Limited data recovery was conducted during the fall of 1985 on two multicomponent sites, 9Cb59 and 9Cb60, in a portion of Mistletoe State Park, Columbia County,, Georgia. The project, consisting of archival research, the partial excavation of an early nineteenth century house site and the subsequent monitoring of road construction was conducted by Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in advance of the construction of cabin sites. Excavation of historic features and the surface collection of portions of the two sites revealed a total of six historic structures identified with two occupations dating to the early nineteenth century and the late nineteenth/early twentieth centuries. The focus of the investigations, 9Cb60, was revealed to be the probable residence and kitchen of Mark Sullivan during the first quarter of the nineteenth century. Prehistoric material recovered from plowzone deposits represented a Late Archaic occupation of 9Cb59 and a Middle to Late Archaic occupation on 9Cb60.
