Abstract

An intensive archaeological resources survey was carried out for the Georgia Transmission Corporation's Millen-Midville Transmission Line in Burke and Jenkins Counties, Georgia. The project was carried out in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act by personnel qualified under 36 CFR Part 61. The total area surveyed included approximately 28.2 km (17.5 miles) of existing transmission line right-of-way. The width of the transmission line right-of-way is 3 0 m (100 ft). No previously identified historic or prehistoric cultural resources were located within the project area boundaries through background research at the Georgia State Historic Preservation Division nor with the State Site Files Database maintained by the Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia. No archaeological sites were identified during fieldwork. Two (2) isolated finds were located in the project area. Both are considered ineligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. The proposed project will not affect significant archaeological resources. No additional archaeological resources investigations are recommended.
