Abstract

In October 2000, Environmental Services, Inc. (ESI conducted a cultural resource assessment survey at the proposed B.L. Waycross Associates, L.L.P. Commercial Development, an approximately 64-acre parcel located in Ware County, Georgia. The investigation was conducted on behalf of B.L. Waycross Associates, L.L.P. in order to meet requirements for obtaining a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Individual Permit. The project area lies between U.S. l and Georgia Highway 82 approximately 1.6 miles east of the city limits in Waycross, Georgia. The field investigation consisted of an intensive pedestrian inspection of the entire tract, supplemented by subsurface testing throughout the area at 30-meter intervals where ground surface visibility was minimal. As a result of the survey, one archaeological (9WE109) was located. All artifacts are temporally associated with the late 19 /early 20 century and were recovered from the plow zone; no intact cultural deposits were encountered. The potential for future work at 9VVE109 to generate significant new data is low, and the site is not considered eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. It is recommended that the proposed project be allowed to proceed without further concern for impacts to significant cultural resources.
