Abstract

The Archaeological Services Unit of the GDNR Historic Preservation Division conducted a Phase I survey of a proposed rest station! bath house within the tent camping area of Victoria Bryant State Park, located in Franklin Springs, Georgia. The survey was undertaken at the request of Parks and Historic Sites Division. The survey was completed on April 18, 2001. The area surveyed was the island of land located in the center of the gravel drive-thru. The area is a teardrop shape that measures approximately 50' x 250'. The proposed site is located on the eastern end (the point of the teardrop). The proposed site will be cleared and a 34' x 16' rest station for camper use will be constructed there. A drainage area located to the west of the gravel road was also surveyed. Previous archaeology in the area revealed six sites within a mile radius.
