Abstract

R. S. Webb & Associates (RSWA) conducted an archeological survey of the proposed Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lanes project [Project Nos. NHS-0001-00(919), NHS-0002-00(39), NH-575-1(38), and NH-73-3(242) Cobb and Cherokee Counties] to locate and identify archeological sites within the project corridors, and to assess the significance of each resource. The 1-75 project corridor extends for approximately 14.15 miles (22.9 kin), from Kennedy Parkway to Wade Green Road. The 1-575 corridor is approximately 8.9 miles (14.4 km), from the 1-75 and 1-575 interchange to Sixes Road. No archeological sites or isolated fords were identified as a result to the archeological survey of the HOV Lanes project corridors. Implementation of the proposed 1-75 and 1-575 HOV Lanes projects will result in no effect to archeological resources listed on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP. Therefore, we recommend that archeological clearance be granted to proceed with the proposed projects.
