The city of Atlanta is planning to rehabilitate several neighborhood parks that will increase their service to the community. In compliance with the cultural resources and environmental policy laws, including the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (PL 91-190), an Intensive Cultural Resources Survey was conducted in Orme, Peyton Forest, and Wilson Mill Parks to determine if this construction would adversely impact cultural resources in the project area. The combined area of the three parks covers approximately 16.9 hectares (41.8 acres). The areas within each park being considered for redevelopment have been severely disturbed by modern construction activity. No significant cultural resources were discovered within these areas during the survey. From the literature and records search no sites were known to have existed in the study areas. Therefore, on the basis of the survey and literature and records search, cultural resource clearance should be given for the City Park Rehabilitation Program.
