Abstract

Kolomoki Mounds State Park plans to construct approximately two miles o new trail south of Kolomoki Creek. State Archaeologist David Crass and Staff Archaeologist Ronnie Rogers conducted a pedestrian survey of the proposed trail on May 5, 1998, using visual surface examination and screened shovel tests. Seven previously unknown archaeological sites were recorded. None of the sites was recommended eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places and it was concluded that the proposed project would have no effect on significant archaeological resources; however, association of the sites with the Kolomoki Historic Landmark merits consideration and is discussed in the recommendations section of this report.
