Abstract

On June 6, 2007, New South Associates conducted an archaeological survey of the proposed trail connector at the intersection of 1-85 and Georgia Highway 20. The project is intended to connect an existing sidewalk located along Georgia Highway 20 with a newly constructed trail along Ivy Creek. As the corridor is located within the existing 1-85 right-of-way, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) required the current archaeological survey project as well as an architectural study in advance of the project. The study corridor is located northeast of the intersection of 1-85 and Georgia Highway 20, near the right-of-way boundary fence. It is approximately 985 feet in length and less than 100 feet in width. A total of ten shovel tests were excavated along the corridor. Although one previously recorded site, 9GW301, is located within the APE, no artifacts or intact soils were found during fieldwork. No further work is recommended.
