Phase I Arch. Survey for the Realignment of SR 56 in Montgomery and Toombs Co., Ga

Report Number

Abstract

The proposed project would realign SR 56 to the south starting approximately 500 feet east of Gibbs Bridge Road and tying back to the original alignment approximately 400 feet east of the Toombs County line. The alignment would separate and flatten the existing curves, which would eliminate the undulation of the existing alignment. The existing alignment's 3.0 and 3.5 degree reverse curves are being replaced with a 1.0 degree curve and a 2.5 degree curve separated by a 1,700-foot tangent. The proposed realignment would result in the extension of an existing triple eight by seven-foot bridge culvert by 35 feet that conveys Taylor Branch, located 800 feet east of Gibbs Bridge Road. Other drainage culverts would be either relocated or extended and the existing SR 56 pavement would be removed as a part of this project. The total length of this project is approximately 0.65 mile. The proposed project will require approximately 0.23 acres of temporary driveway easement and approximately 6 acres of right-of-way.
