Abstract

On August 24, 1977, Ernest W. Seckinger and Terry A. Ferguson conducted a cultural resource survey of 5.48 acres of land proposed for exchange with Mr Odell Vandiver. The small tract was once part of some 37,000 acres owned by the Smethport (Tannin) Extraction Company before purchase by the Federal Government (Annonymous, 1924). During World War I, practically all merchantable sawtimber was removed, leaving only small and low-grade timber.
