Abstract

The State Office of the Soil Conservation Service at Athens, Georgia granted a contract to Dr. A.R. Kelly for a survey of the total drainage area of Tribble Mill Creek, located in the southeastern part of Gwinnett County, Georgia. Dr. Kelly is emeritus professor of anthropology at the University of Georgia at Athens. The contract was carried out during December of 1975 2nd January of 1976. The nature and scope of the survey, and the nature and scope of the report to be submitted on completion of the survey are spelled out in detail in the contract specifications. The State Office provided maps and aerial photographs of the survey area, and the whole hearted cooperation of both the State Office and the Lawrenceville Office of the Soil Conservation Service. Dr. Kelly appointed as Field Supervisor his daughter, Mrs. Sheila K. Caldwell, who holds the B.A. degree in anthropology (U.G.A. Athens 1950) and has spent the past twenty five years actively engaged in archeological work including reconnaissance, site excavation, preparation of reports for publication, archeological. drafting and illustration, laboratory work and museum design and exhibit construction. These varied activities were carried out under the supervision of Dr. Kelly and the late Dr. Joseph R. Caldwell, full professor of anthropology at the University of Georgia at Athens.
