Abstract

"In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project MLPOO-0307-00(008), Chatham County, has been surveyed with respect to archeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. This project consists of widening 1.23 miles of an existing four-lane undivided facility to a four-lane roadway separated by a 20-foot raised median throughout the project length. Five-foot sidewalks and 12foot shoulders will be installed on both sides of SR 307, with a 4:1 fill slope. A recent change to this project involves replacing loop detection devices at the intersection with SR 21. No additional right-of-way is required for this change to the project construction limits.
