Abstract

The proposed project would consist of the widening and reconstruction of North 2"d Avenue/State Route 101 in Rome (see Figure 1). The project would begin at the Oostanaula River Bridge just south of West 3'd Street and would end 650 feet along Martha Berry Boulevard just north of the intersection of Turner McCall Boulevard and Martha Berry Boulevard. North 2nd Avenue/State Route 101 currently consists of four, 10 to 13 foot lanes (two in each direction) with curb and gutter and 5 foot sidewalk on the east side of the roadway. The proposed improvements include four 11 foot lanes (two in each direction) separated by a 19 foot wide raised median, 12 foot wide shoulders with curb and gutter and 5 foot sidewalks on both sides of the roadway. Left and right turn lanes would be added at intersections where warranted. The "Y" Intersection at Turner McCall Boulevard and West 6th Street would be removed and all traffic would be routed to a four-leg intersection at North 2nd Avenue/State Route 101 and Turner McCall Boulevard. Traffic would be maintained during construction. Existing right-of-way varies from 52 to 60 feet. Proposed right-of-way would vary between 100 to 124 feet.
