Abstract

A cultural and biological resource survey was conducted in the area of the proposed water supply reservoir in Fayette County, Georgia. The survey was conducted at the request of Mallett and Associates for the Fayette County Water Authority. Surface and shallow subsurface sampling techniques located three prehistoric and four historic sites in the area. No sites possessed the integrity or significance to require further work and full cultural resource clearance is' recommended. Both terrestrial and aquatic resources were sampled in the reservoir. Transects of the uplands and seining of the aquatic habitats did not produce any records for either Federal or State List protected species. The presence of some specialized wetland microhabitats in the uplands of the study area was deemed significant enough to warrant special consideration during project construction. Details of the suggested mitigative measures for these areas are presented in the Summary and Recommendations section of Chapter IV.
