Abstract

The site has long been recognized as a significant architectural ruin, and as the home of a historically important figure. The ruin and intact structures on the property are easily accepted as historical artifacts that merit study and preservation. The archaeological component of this site is less visible, and has received little attention in the past as a valuable constituent of this property. While the ruins and standing architecture are critical elements of the site, the archaeological remains that are concealed beneath the ground might provide the only means of adequately reconstructing life at this site on a day to day basis. The archaeological remains can also enhance interpretation of the architecture and even the gardens.
