Abstract

Project IR-75-2(168) is located at the SR 36 and 1-75 interchange. The project consists of replacing the existing bridge, raising the grade for approximately 3000 feet, relocating the ramps and relocating CR 288 and CR 166. The project begins approximately 0.55 mile southwest and ends approximately 0.55 mile northeast of the SR 36 and 1-75 interchange; total project length is 1.10 miles. The existing right-of-way is 100 feet; the proposed right-of-way would require an additional 100 feet, for a total of 200 feet of right-of-way. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project right-of-way was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred with by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed corridor as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the projects will not affect archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
