Abstract

The proposed project would consist of the improvement of the intersection of SR 14/US 29 and SR 154 in Coweta county. Improvement's would include the addition of a southbound left turn along SR 14/US 29 as well as the construction of a westbound right turn lane along SR 154. Also included in the proposed project would be the improvement of the radius of the southeastern quadrant of the intersection. Existing right-of-way along SR 14/US 29 is approximately 18.29 m (60 ft) and along SR 154 is 24.38 m (80 ft). Additional required right-of-way would be approximately 3.6 m (11.8 ft) on the north side of SR 154. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted along the entire project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
