Abstract

An intensive cultural resources survey was carried out for a segment of the proposed Marietta - Chattanooga Pipeline in Chattooga County, Georgia. The project was carried out in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act by personnel qualified under 36 CFR Part 61. The project is a single tract approximately 1.2 km (0.75 mi) in length. The project area runs alongside the current pipeline route through Mack White Gap, east of Summerville, Georgia. The area is within the Chattahoochee National Forest and is bounded by U.S. Forest Service Land Lots 160 and 161. No previously identified historic or prehistoric cultural resources were located within the project area boundaries through background research at the State Site Files database, maintained by the Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia, Athens; the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources; and the National Register of Historic Places On-line Information System (http://www.nr.nps.gov/). No archaeological sites or historic structures were identified during fieldwork. The proposed project will not affect any previously recorded cultural resources. No additional cultural resources investigations are recommended for this project.
