Abstract

The project discussed in this report is the result of the proposed construction of a new electrical power substation along U.S. 1 in Richmond County, Georgia. The project is located on the east side of U.S. 1 north of Blythe and near the Fort Gordon Military Reservation (Figure 1). The area surveyed consisted of approximately 9.9 acres. Field work was directed by John Cable of New South's Columbia, South Carolina office, assisted by Anita Cable, on July 18, 1991. No sites are currently recorded within or adjacent to the project area. Sixty-two shovel tests were placed in the project area, and yielded no evidence of cultural remains. No further work is recommended in the project area.
