Abstract

The proposed project would restore the eastern bridge foundation and stabilize the embankment, which resulted from washouts during the flood event in September 2009. The design includes a concrete retaining wall behind which the remaining voids will be filled through pressurized grouting through bore holes, extensive bank armor placement, and excavation in the washout areas, The excavation would cut into the embankment and restrain the bank armor that would prevent future washouts or undermining of the foundation. All work would be done within existing right-of-way on the east side of the Chattahoochee River in Fulton County. A temporary access road within the existing right-of-way to access the bridge foundation is proposed north of Capps Ferry Road. The total project length is 0.2 mile.
