Abstract

The proposed project would consist of improvements to the existing SR 12/US 278, CR 110/Brickhouse Road/Cunningham Road intersection between the cities of Greensboro and Union Point. County Road 110Brickhouse Road would be relocated approximately 1056 feet east of its current location along SR 12/US 278 in order to provide improved sight distance from both approaches to the intersection. County Road 110/Cunningham Road would be relocated approximately 210 feet west. An archeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archeological surveys based on the type/scope of work of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. One archaeological site, 9Ge(DOT)6, was identified within the project's area of potential effect (see attached eligibility recommendation and site form). Site 9Ge(DOT)6 has an unknown eligibility recommendation with the portion of the site in the APE not contributing to the site's overall eligibility. Since no existing or eligible National Register resources were located within the project's area of potential environmental effect. It is concluded, erefore, that the project will have no effect upon archeological resources on or eligible for inc sion the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
