Abstract

An access road is being constructed from the end of Lawrence or Couper Road on the north end of St. Simons island northward to Hampton Point. Couper Road is paved. The new road will extend two miles and will be aligned a few hundred feet west of the existing unpaved road to Hampton Point. This point also is known as Butler and Half Moon Point. A 100' right-of-way for the access road has been granted the developers, Hampton Plantation, by the landowners, Sea island Corporation. A strip 40-501 wide will be cleared along the right-of-way and 20' will be paved. The strip was to be cleared by a bulldozer, starting February 15, 1978, then graded and pavedthe schedule was altered temporarily because of archeological sites found.
