Cobb County plans to expand its airport, McCollum Field, in three phases between 1987 and 2005 in accordance with the Federal Aviation Administration-approved master plan. The first project is to extend the runway 1740' (544m) eastward, plus 1000' (312.5m) more for an overrun area.

An access road is being constructed from the end of Lawrence or Couper Road on the north end of St. Simons island northward to Hampton Point. Couper Road is paved. The new road will extend two miles and will be aligned a few hundred feet west of the existing unpaved road to Hampton Point.

This is a 1000-acre tract on Briar Creek in McDuffie County, just west ofCamp Gordon Military Reservation. The land has two ponds ---a third has been drained--- which were constructed about 1913 using a mule and scoop. The dikes for the two ponds are wide enough to drive a pick-up truck on.

Material is exposed here more abundantly on the gentle slope above the river flood plain. This land is farmed regularly. The site well may continue to the south of U.S. 411. The material which is found on the surface here is stone. This apparently was a workshop area.
