Abstract

Studies of the environmental impact of the transit system proposed by the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority have shown that the system will be, for the most part, not injurious and, in many instances, protective of the environment of the region. Planning studies identified little damage to neighborhoods or community services. Relocation loads in terms of families and businesses are relatively small. Metropolitan-wide inventories suggest that available housing will approximately equal anticipated displacements. Virtually no historic sites will be jeopardized and adequate controls will insure an appropriate replacement of the few historic markers which must be reset. Potential archaeological sites have been identified and proper care will be taken to assure their protection, examination and excavation prior to construction.
