Abstract

On August 24, 1992 David Davis of this office conducted a Phase I archaeological survey in campsites #58 - #71 at Mistletoe State Park, Columbia County, Georgia. These campsites are proposed for renovation which involve new disturbances. Each campsite covered an area slightly less than 80 m2. The purpose of the survey was to investigate the possibility of cultural resources within the proposed construction area. Methods employed during the survey included ground surface inspections and shovel testing. Ground surface areas inspected included the bases of trees, eroding banks, and paths. Two shovel tests, 30cm wide and dug to subsoil, were conducted in each campsite. The tests, spaced five meters apart, were placed in areas that were not eroded and where topsoil existed.
