Abstract

On October 9, 1989, Dan Simpkins of this office accompanied Handy Johnson to Mistletoe State Park to review the archaeological situation in the area to be affected by the proposed project to improve the park entrance. I had previously reported on this project in an August 27, 1986 memorandum to Liz Lyon through Joe McCannon. The title of the memorandum was "Archaeological Testing in Mistletoe State Park." The testing had consisted of shovel testing in two areas and the examination of a house site (WGC1577) in the project location. The report concluded: I would recommend a Phase II testing of the area accompanied by an examination of existing records that may provide information on the earlier house. The Phase II testing and record search will establish the significance of the Area No. 2 archaeological site and permit the completion of the 106 process.
