Abstract

The proposed project would correct the existing horizontal alignment on SR 324 at CR 211 (Location 1) and CR 203 (Location 2). At Location 1, the proposed project would realign SR 324 to the south of its existing location from a point approximately 0.1 km (0.06 ml) southeast of SR 124 to a point approximately 0.2 km (0.12 ml) south of existing CR 211 for a total distance of approximately 0.55 kilometer (0.34 mile). At Location 2, the proposed project would realign SR 324 to the southwest of its existing location from a point approximately 0.1 km (0.06 mi) south of its intersection with CR 203 to a point approximately 0.14 km (.08 mi) for a total distance of approximately 0.24 km (0.15 mi). The existing right-of-way at both locations is approximately 30.5 m (100 ft). An additional 30.5 m (100 ft) would be required at Location 1, and a maximum 9.14 m (30 ft) of additional right-of-way would be required at Location 2. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation. Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or eligible National Register archaeological resources were located within the project's area of potential environmental effect. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
