An archaeological testing program of four sites on Walter F. George Lake, Georgia and Alabama, was performed for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District. Site 1Br25 proved to contain significant intact deposits related to the seventeenth century Blackmon phase and subsequent Lawson Field phase of the historic Creek era. Site 9Sw71, a habitation area, and Site 9Qu58, a mortuary mound, both retain intact deposits dating to the Middle Woodland period. Analysis of the artifacts recovered indicate these sites bridge the previously undescribed gap between the Mandeville II and Kolomoki phases. Sites 1Br25, 9Sw71 and 9Qu58 are considered eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Intact deposits were not present at the Mississippian, Rood phase Site 9Sw19; it is not considered eligible for the NRHP.
