Abstract

This study has shown that the three county area that includes Robins Air Force Base is rich in both archaeological and historical resources. Archaeological sites reflective of the total known prehistory of Georgia are known to exist within or a short distance from Robins Air Force Base. Thirty-three archaeological sites have been recorded to date from within the Base. The historical resources of the immediate area span the period from the initial European intrusion into the area in the sixteenth century to resources associated with the agricultural and later military history of the area. This volume will serve as an underpinning for future cultural resource studies of Robins Air Force Base, and will have general utility for studies conducted over the surrounding region. The synopsis of the cultural resources of Robins Air Force Base will be more fully informed by the surveys planned on the base in the immediate future, and this synopsis should be viewed as a dynamic document that will continue to expand as additional knowledge on the area is accumulated.
