Abstract

The objective of this project was to conduct a cultural resource survey of the proposed 40" O.D. Products Pipeline Chattahoochee River Crossing, Cobb and Fulton Counties, Georgia. Research and field investigation were conducted under the provisions of an authorization received from Colonial Pipeline Company September 26, 1977. Field work was initiated on September 28, 1977 and completed the following day. The project required a literature and records search to determine the nature and extent of known historical and archaeological resources in the vicinity. This background research was conducted by the undersigned at the Georgia State University Laboratory of Archaeology, the Georgia State Library , the Historic Preservation Branch of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the Marietta Public Library. The results of this research are reported in Chapters II and III. The archaeological survey was limited to areas defined by the Colonial Pipeline Company, which were marked in the field. The field survey consisted of both pedestrian surface reconnaissance and systematic subsurface testing. The results of the survey are reported in Chapter IV.
