Abstract

The objective of this project was to conduct an archaeological survey of the area to be impacted by the construction of a force main and gravity feed outfall sewer line as described in the proposed modifications of the Intrenchment Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, DeKalb County, Georgia. This project was completed under the provisions of an authorization received on June 9, 1977. The literature and records search and archaeological survey were conducted by the undersigned. The archaeological fieldwork was performed on June 14, 1977. The project contract required that existing archaeological and historical information be reviewed in order to determine the extent of known cultural resources in the project vicinity. This background research was undertaken at the Atlanta Historical Society, the DaKalb County Historical Society, and the Georgia State Archaeological Laboratory. The results of this background research will be presented in detail in Chapters II and III. The archaeological survey involved a pedestrian survey of the proposed corridors. Intensive inspection was made in those areas which appeared to have high potential for the placement of archaeological sites. Special attention was also given to those areas in the project vicinity lacking heavy ground cover where surface archaeological remains could be most easily detected.
