Abstract

This project involves the construction of a 40 ft by 72 ft frame structure for the composting of chicken waste and carcasses. The area of potential effect (APE) was considered to be the actual footprint of the proposed building and the area immediately adjacent to it. The project area is located in the Lookout Valley in rural Dade County, Georgia, approximately 2 km northeast of Trenton and 38 m west of Lookout Creek (Figure 1). The site is located on a narrow, north/south tending upland terrace above Lookout Creek. It is situated at the base of a small ridge on the western side of the valley. The area is currently in pasture, with forest marking the western (upslope) boundary of the APE. The northern end of the terrace has been impacted by the construction of a large chicken house.
