Abstract

A cultural resources reconnaissance survey of 1820 ac (736.5 ha) in the Oconee National Forest in Greene and Morgan Counties, Georgia, was conducted for the U.S. Forest Service. Nineteen prehistoric sites, nine historic sites, one rock pile site, and eleven artifact occurrences were located. Five aboriginal sites and three historic sites were recommended as eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. Eligibility could not be determined for three prehistoric sites, three historic sites, and one rock pile site. Fourteen sites were determined to be ineligible. Additional recommendations were made for conducting intensive level surveys of areas within the Wallace Reservoir National Register District and in the areas near the Scull Shoals historic and prehistoric sites.
