Abstract

Under contract with Jordan, Jones & Goulding, Inc., Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted an archaeological resources survey (Phase I) of the proposed Burnt Stand Substation in Lumpkin County. The project tract is approximately 15 acres (6 hectares). Survey tasks were completed in compliance with criteria defined under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and with regulations implementing this legislation (36CFR Part 800: Protection of Historic Properties). Background research was conducted at the Georgia Archaeological Site File (University of Georgia, Athens) to determine if any previously recorded archaeological sites are present within or adjacent to the project tract. No archaeological surveys have been conducted in the vicinity of the tract. The field survey identified no archaeological sites or isolated finds. Construction of the proposed substation will not affect significant archaeological resources. Clearance is recommended.
