Abstract

The proposed project would replace the bridge on County road (CR) 50/Caney Bay Road over Buffalo Creek in Brantley County. The existing bridge, constructed in 1950, has a sufficiency rating of 13.10 and has load restrictions for trucks; it cannot be repaired cost-effectively. The existing section of CR 50 in the project area is a rural two lane road with 12-foot travel lane within an 80-foot right-of-way. The existing bridge over Buffalo Creek is approximately 112 feet long b 21.4 feet wide. A new bridge would be constructed 30 feet (center line to center line) south of the existing bridge over Buffalo Creek. Traffic would be maintained on the existing bridge during construction. The new bridge would be 250 feet long by 32 feet wide (two 12-foot lane with 2-foot shoulders); no pilings would be placed into Buffalo Creek. The proposed right-of-way would be 110 feet wide at the bridge; therefore, an additional 900x30-foot strip of right-of-way would be required along the existing southern right-of-way to accommodate the new bridge and approaches. The roadway approaches on either side of the new bridge would be aligned to connect smoothly into the new bridge I cation. The project length is 1500 feet (0.28 mile).
