Abstract

Between July 7 and July 12, and July 25 and July 26, 2013 Brockington and Associates, Inc. (Brockington) conducted a Cultural Resources Survey of the Tifton to Ty Ty transmission structure replacement project corridor in Tift County, Georgia (PI# 1253104). Figure 1.1 is a project location map. The project was performed while under contract with Georgia Power (a Southern Company) as an act of due diligence. The survey was performed by personnel qualified under the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards {36 CFR Part 61-Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation). The project consists of the replacement of 17 structures. The existing structures are wood poles, ranging in height from 42.7 to 58.8 feet (ft) (13 meter [m] to 17.9 m) above ground surface, supporting a 46kV line. The proposed replacement structures would be concrete structures supporting a 46k V line and would range in height from 56.5 ft to 74.5 ft (17.2 m to 22.7 m) above ground surface. However, the majority of the proposed structures would rise 61 ft (18.5 m) above ground surface. The Tifton to TyTy transmission line corridor runs in an east-west direction parallel to US 82/SR520. Figure 1.2 is an aerial map showing the locations of the proposed structures.
